Background:The use of Viagra (sildenafil) in Australia has been associated with a significant increase in erectile dysfunction (ED), and the erectile dysfunction has been associated with decreased sexual satisfaction. We investigated whether the use of sildenafil has influenced sexual performance, satisfaction and sexual function in a cohort of Australian men. Study design and setting
Methods:We studied men aged 18–64 years with ED using sildenafil at randomised and controlled doses for 4–7 years, and assessed erectile function, satisfaction, sexual satisfaction and sexual function with a sex-specific version of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF).
Results:The proportion of men who reported sexual function improved from 0.13% to 0.23%, and erectile function improved from 0.13% to 0.23% after treatment with sildenafil. Satisfaction and sexual function improved by 0.06 and 0.11, respectively. We did not observe a significant increase in the satisfaction scores for the 4-week sildenafil compared with placebo. In contrast, we did not find any significant changes in the 4-week sildenafil group compared with placebo. These results indicate that sildenafil is associated with improvements in the erectile function and satisfaction of men.
Conclusions:The use of sildenafil has been associated with sexual function improvements and satisfaction.
Erectile dysfunction is a prevalent condition in Australia and the prevalence in the general population is rising. This study was conducted to investigate the impact of the use of sildenafil on sexual function, satisfaction and satisfaction in a cohort of men. Sildenafil, an inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis, has been shown to increase erectile function and satisfaction in men with ED.Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (HGH) is a common form of low testosterone in men. HGH is believed to be a key factor in the development of erectile dysfunction and sexual dysfunction in men. It has been suggested that the use of sildenafil increases testosterone levels in men with hypogonadism. This study aimed to assess the impact of sildenafil use on erectile function, satisfaction, sexual function and satisfaction in men with HGH.Introduction:It has been linked to various health problems, including erectile dysfunction (ED). The prevalence of HGH among men in Australia is increasing and it is commonly associated with an increase in age, as well as poor quality of life. However, it has been observed that this condition is not common in the general population. In addition, the incidence of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is increasing. As such, the use of sildenafil may be associated with improved erectile function and satisfaction in men. In this study, we investigated the impact of the use of sildenafil on erectile function, satisfaction and sexual function in a cohort of men. We aimed to investigate the impact of sildenafil on erectile function, satisfaction and sexual function in a cohort of men with HGH.
The study was registered at the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRRC) and followed up men with HGH between 1 July 2021 and 31 May 2024. Men were recruited from a general population in Sydney. Men were randomly assigned to sildenafil or placebo for 4–7 years. The study was conducted at the Department of Urology, Sydney Medical Centre, and the Sexual Health and Wellness Department at the Sydney University Health Centre. Erectile dysfunction was assessed with the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) questionnaire. Sexual function was assessed using the Sydney version of the International Erectile Function Questionnaire (IIEF-Q) and the Sydney Sexual Index. Erectile function was assessed by the Sydney International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) and the Sydney Sexual Index. Sexual satisfaction was assessed by the Sydney International Frequency Questionnaire (IIFSQ). The Sydney Sexual Satisfaction Questionnaire (SISQ) and the Sydney Erectile Function Questionnaire (SENQ) were used to assess sexual function.
Men from the sildenafil group had a mean age of 56.8 years with a mean baseline IIEF total score of 28.8, and mean IIEF scores of 18.7. The proportion of men who reported satisfaction and sexual function were 0.
